Jennifer Woodburn

Having lived in various resort communities across North America, Jennifer has been constantly surrounded by amazing landscapes.   Her love of the outdoors and nature provides much of the inspiration for her work.   She grew up in Saskatchewan, which gave her an appreciation for the wide-open spaces that the prairies provide.   As a young adult Jennifer moved to the mountains of British Columbia, and fell in love with the old growth forests and rugged peaks.

In 2009 Jennifer moved to the Georgian Bay region of Ontario, which she now explores on foot, skis, bike, boat and by paint brush.  Idyllic country farmsteads, rolling hills, lush deciduous forests, and the waters of Georgian Bay are all subjects which she translates onto canvas.  With an upbeat, sophisticated palette, and a graphic edge it has been said that Jennifer’s paintings resonate like a modern stained glass.  She takes the traditional genre of landscape painting, and pushes it into the contemporary realm.

Jennifer splits her time between her studios in Thornbury and Pointe au Baril, Ontario. Her paintings have been acquired for both private and corporate collections across North America, Europe and Australia.

“Using line and simplifying what I see, I look for interesting shapes and colours, and explore the spaces in between. Rhythm is found, and exaggerated. I love to push and pull colours, yet keep a balance of harmony. With a bit of whimsy for good measure, I capture the Canadian landscape in acrylic paint on canvas.”
