Spencer J. Harrison

Spencer J. Harrison is a senior artist who has been exhibiting nationally and internationally for over 40 years. First educated with a BFA at Queen's University, he went on to paint the first painted PhD in Canada, through OISE, University of Toronto. He currently teaches in the drawing and painting department at OCAD University and has been the Artist-in-Residence in a Toronto District School Board high school for over 15 years.

Although he produces very political work which he exhibits through the Canadian public art gallery system, his work at the County Creative Gallery are paintings which speak about contemporary romance. Harrison uses antiquated canoes in imagined waterscapes as metaphors for the narratives he explores. His love of colour and painting allows the viewer to explore these very Canadian images.
